Curfew In Ballina

CURFEW IN BALLINA

  All doubts regarding Curfew in Ballina are set at rest by the proclamation of the Competent Military Authority, received on Thursday, which he is officially requested to publish in this issue, announcing that Curfew will be enforced between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Fairs and Markets have also been prohibited until further notice within a five mile radius of the town. The full text of the proclamations is as follows:--

RESTORATION OF ORDER IN IRELAND REGULATIONS

I, Lieutenant-Colonel B. D. Fisher, C.M.G., D.S.O., Competent Military Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Regulation 3 of the Restoration of Order in Ireland Regulations, and of all other powers me thereunto enabling, DO HEREBY ORDER AND REQUIRE every person within the town of BALLINA to remain within doors between the hours of EIGHT o’Clock, p.m., and FOUR o’Clock, a.m., unless provided with a Permit in writing from the Competent Military Authority or some person duly authorised by him. This Order shall come into force at TWELVE o’clock midnight on the 17th day of April, 1921.

Applications for Permits are to be made in writing to:-

DISTRICT INSPECTOR R.I.C., BALLINA.

Permits will be granted to Clergymen, Registered Medical Practitioners, and Nurses engaged on urgent duties. Permits will not be granted to other persons save in exceptional cases of absolute necessity.

Every person abroad between the hours mentioned in the foregoing order, when challenged by any policeman, or by any Officer, Non-commissioned Officer, or Soldier on duty, must immediately halt and obey the orders given to him, and if he fails to do so it will at his own peril.

WHEREAS Disorder has occurred in the District of BALLINA culminating in the Shooting of Police.

 NOW I, LIEUT.-CLONEL B. D. FISHER, C.M.G., D.S.O., COLONEL COMMANDANT, THE GALWAY BRIGADE, COMPETENT MILITARY AUTHORITY, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Regulation 9.A of the Restoration of Order in Ireland Regulations, HEREBY ORDER that in BALLINA, and within a radius of FIVE MILES from the Police Barracks there, all FAIRS, MARKETS and PUBLIC MEETINGS are prohibited until such time as on being satisfied that order is restored, I revoke this Order.
  This Order shall take effect as from the Seventeenth day of April, 1921.
 Given under my hand this 17th day of April, 1921.
